I Am a Cat is a long book full of wordplay, complicated farcical sequences, obscure cultural references, long philosophical digressions and obtuse allusions to Chinese literature. It reminds me in parts of P.G. Wodehouse, Monty Python, Studio Ghibli films and Roald Dahl. Our lovable narrator is an unnamed cat lounging around a Tokyo household in the early years of the 20th /5. Let's face it! The only thing more difficult than naming your first-born child is deciding on a name for your pet. But the name scientists here at Cuteness HQ have been hard at work compiling the most popular animal names for the newest members of your family. When the name Vanilla Fudge is suggested, you see the cat sitting in a bowl of ice cream. When the name Scruggs comes up, he's yodeling in overalls to his own cat-sized banjo. Mild amusement all around. Nothing about this book is going to really stick with the child who reads it for very long. This is obviously a filler book.4/5(3). [Update!: Find more literary pet names in “Literary Pet Names: Canine Edition”]. When my partner, Ashley, and I got our first cat, about 18 months ago, the hardest part was choosing a brainstormed, we listed, we bickered, we wavered, we despaired. We wanted something unusual, something evocative—and most of all, we wanted a literary pet Author: Derek Attig. He’d decided the cat’s name was Thomas, and that was that. Although Thomas did grow into his imposing name, I still believe that it’s your duty as a cat owner to give your feline friend a frivolous, memorable, and well-suited moniker.
